Fj62 4wd Light

Hi,

fix it!

my 88 fj62 did the same thing. i was told it was a relay switch below the dash by one person, but that didn't fix it.

i made sure i had good vacuum on both sides of the 4wd solenoid located in the engine compartment on the firewall.

i then replaced the solenoids on the firewall which actuate the 4wd vacuum line and that fixed it.

i purchased a used solenoid from cruiserparts.net. (a new one from toyota, if available, was going to cost $400) this one cost around $125 i think. it was over a year ago and i haven't had any problems.

i was also told that it helps to "excercise" the switch some, kind of like AC systems; with a lack of use they get sticky.

also, if it's stuck in 4wd then you can manually get it out:

with switch in "off" position (light still on) and the vehicle in neutral (parking brake!) identify the solenoid on the firewall. pull one vacuum line and make sure there is good suction. apply vacuum to one side or the other (can't remember which is "on" and which is "off") and then check the light.

this was my solution until i replaced the solenoids.

Struck relay or switch?
does it come out of 4WD?

Solenoid seems to be most the common response from what I have read here.... but.... I recently experienced the same issue and it was not the solenoid. Turned out to be a crudded up vacuum line.

My newb guess...If not the solenoid or the vacuum line(s) then check the diaphram.

tonight!

i am praying its the vacuum line on mine as well!!

am going to be figuring that out tonight....well, in 1.5 hours in fact.

can't tell you how excited i am to get this thing fixed!!

and for back up reasons i am hunting down a solenoid replacement just in case!!!

hi. my light was on for i dunno 8 months, the ds was spinning but 4wd was not engaged, as soon as i locked the hubs id be in 4hi. manual 4l shift worked fine.
my problem was the vacuum lines, corrosion at one of the brackets. i fixed by-passing the bracket with washer fuild tube. light came off. boy was i happy when it came off.
dont cross the vacuum lines as on is for turning it off, the other for engaging 4wd
