Good afternoon-evening.
I’m fairly new here; this forum was recommended to me by the gentleman from whom I bought my FJ60 from. It came with a few new parts and from the title here, I’m replacing the radiator as first order of business. I figure it might be the easiest thing for me to do.

In any case, I’ve run into a bit of a roadblock. Now I’m not sure if anybody else has had this problem (I imagine so), but I’m trying to figure out how to deal with these rubber bushings on the lower mounts and even the ones up top. I’m thinking I need to remove the grill in order to get a better view (particularly for the top ones), but what would you fellows recommend?

I have photos to reference as well. I appreciate your time and input.

Remove the grille. If it’s got AC, you remove the bolts for the condenser, then kind of wiggle it just enough to access the radiator bolts. The 4 nuts removed from each side above that lower mount don’t need removed until the radiator is out either, but doesn’t hurt.

If you’re inclined to do it, there’s a mod that involves cutting the fan shroud in half horizontally so it’s easier to access things in the future. Not necessary but some like it.

And we need pics!

Firstly, I appreciate the prompt reply!
I was afraid I might have to remove the grille…ah well, beggars can’t be choosers. LOL.

Now if I’m understanding you correctly, I didn’t have to actually remove those 4 nuts on the bolts of the radiator at the bottom?
And what about those 4 (two at the bottom and top) that have those rubber bushings on them? Leave those too?

If by pics you mean pics of my 60, I definitely have some of those 😄

Yes, pics of your new rig!

The ones with the rubber bushings do come out: 6 bolts total. There’s the 2 at the bottom of the radiator that point down. Then, 4 that go from the grille side, through the core support and into the captured nut in the bushing. Removing the grille isn’t that difficult. There’s some clips on the ends and I think just a couple screws.
Everything circled in red comes out. The 4 in green come out if your new radiator doesn’t have the brackets already attached. If not (usually don’t) then you transfer those brackets to the new radiator.

So there is a disease called, “while you are in there…”. I have a bad case of it and end up replacing rubber bushing and hardware. Using some scotch brite and repaint the fan shroud, etc. Do not succumb to this disease or your repairs take much longer and may empty your pockets. Beware!

Good morning! Apologies for the late response; it’s been a hectic weekend and work week. I’m going to take a swing at it this morning and see if I can get it all done, I appreciate the help.
The new radiator does not, in fact, have those brackets on the sides, so I’ll definitely have to take them out. I also understand that I’ll have to take the grille off…

Before I got started with this, I went and watched a YT video and dude just unscrewed his radiator and pulled it straight up 😂 I figured mine would be the same until I got busy with it.

Also, as requested, some photos. I picked up “Gojira” in Arkansas, and I chose that name because: Toyota is Japanese, the paintjob, the engine’s got a nice rumble/roar to it, and I just like Godzilla.

I was actually contemplating on ordering some new hardware; I just wasn’t really sure where to get some from though. 😅

I’m trying to get used to returning to this forum on a regular basis considering there is a wealth of knowledge here. Nonetheless, I got the new Radi in last Thursday, BUT as is the case with ME (lol), I didn’t realize I needed to get a new cap. Fast forward til Wednesday. New cap on and good to go…on to the next thing.

I have a slew of new parts that I got as a part of the purchase of my 60, including a new thermostat, distributor cap, brake drum parts and so on…so before I end up creating a new thread or anything, I’ll try to comb through already existing threads.

I appreciate the feedback upon the initial creation of this particular thread though, too!
And while I’m here, I may as well ask the question: How do you guys go about handling rust on the door panels and wheel wells? I’ve already got some well holes that have been patched, but I’m just curious about the door panels in particular.

Search for the preserving patina thread in the 40 section. Lots of good info. Unless you’re wanting to cut out the rust and weld in new metal.
