what all did you do to improve mileage in your 62, please fill me in

By last April I was getting 10mpg around town. Since then I've replaced:

thermostat, air filter, plugs, rotor, dist cap, high tension wires
fuel cap gasket (and drained tank), fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator
EGR modulator and valve, oxygen sensors, throttle position sensor (and cleaned throttle body)

I still have left to do the valves and timing, and run sea foam through it.

As it stands now though it idles smooth as silk at 650 rpm, has lots more power at the top end than it used to, and I think I'm getting as good mileage as I can expect.

I'd be interested to know your tire size.
The carb cooling fan is to help prevent vapor lock and runs 'for up to aprox. 30 minutes' as stated in the owners manual.
MPG seems kind of high compared to most 60's so we're very interested in the 'how you do dat'
Russ in California

He took the roof rack off and put huge tires on....then he got rid of that gay grey color, and that kaymar that is always filled with sand.

p.s. put a new air cleaner in.

tire size is LT235R75-15. Nothing fancy. Never saw the point in big huge tires. Just gives one a big huge hole in the wallet. Also, don't like to have a ladder to get in the vehicle. We had one of those growing up (stock 76 Ford F250 with 16.5 inch tires.) I swear that getting in and out of that thing was horrible. And I would never chase game with my vehicle, just idiots that shoot at me-what I really meant. No, never been strapped to the hood, though I have hung over the cab and out the box of trucks at speed trying to listen for various noises.
