try it without first....I "get by" without assist on mine, but it will be a nice addition once installed. You may or may not need it, just depends on the terrain you wheel.

I get the sense that you are not really at the point where you can make your own decisions about what would work best for you. You seem to be using the terminology without a great deal of understanding. I think you need to wheel your wagon, look at other rigs that work well, talk to folks who have installed some of the swaps you are talking about and think long and hard about what would work best for you.

i agree with medusa, learn to walk before you crawl... start wheeling a stocker, and see where your problem lies, need bigger rubber, try to fit it, if stuff starts breaking, add the beef. not that i know anything, cause i'm not hardcore

Why not start out at least with the better drivetrain from the get go...would be monies ahead in the long run...

Just another opinion...

i mean i have been wheeling that truck for 2 years and before that my dad wheeled it with me.. so i know what it can take, but i mean i have the money to upgrade drivetrain, suspension and what not.. so i was thinking about beefing it up from the start so it would be one less thing to worry about when i go four wheelin.. this summer i'm gonna work as a mechanic or atleast train to be one for my summer job, but i dont wanna wait that long to start the mod's... i think as long as i have the right equitment and you guys here to help me, not to menion my friends and my dad, that everything will go smoothly enuff.
atleast i hope it will

i want to see a before hand picture so i can laugh at it later

i love laughing at my trucks before hand pictures. It looked like a low rider and now i think it looks badass. Later on you can do a before and after picture.

Good luck mark!

Take lots of pictures, of everything. You will be suprised some day at the things you wish you would have taken a photo of to reference, or to share with your buddies and laugh over..

good luck!

did we say that out loud? :flipoff2:

Medusa is right with the experience, but the 60 will quickly overpower stock components once you start to push it offroad. Since you "have" the pieces, the time, and the interest, I'd get started.

If you don't have it now, buy a digi camera for $200 or so. I take tons of useless pictures, just cause there's no developing and occasionally that odd photo is a needed reference later. Photo history's of projects are BY FAR the best reference.

i found a deal online for a SM465 and Np205 and a Np203... would that setup work in the land crusier with the stock 2F, or would the crawl ratio be to low?
thanks
-mark

What do you mean 'too low'?

I think that it would work out fine.

Good luck!

-Steve

well i just wanted to make sure the 203 mated with the 205 would bolt directly to the 14-bolt... and also, i could run like 4.10 gears instead of 4.88 if i only had the np205 right?
thanks again
-mark

If this is going to see street time, you are going to want the 4.88's in the axles at least, those 38's are going to suck up a lot of power, especially on a wagon..

Good luck!

-Steve

If you are going to change the R/P I would go 5:13.You are not going to go smaller with the tires over the years, and who knows, you may wad that thing up the first year out with it after you get it all built up, and then it is open season for building anything, and a set of one-ton axles, locked up and geared to 4:88 or deeper would be great for starting a project..

Good luck!

-Steve

i was looking at detroits for 14 bolt's and it say's GM 14 Blt 9.5'', is that the ring gear size? and are most 14 bolt axle's 9.5''?
thanks
