FJ60 as plow vehicle?

Thanks for all the advise. I found an 86 FJ 60 with plow and 89K for $2500 or BO. I suspect that the owner will be a wild eyed heretic if he has a plow on the front of his vehicle. His wife told me that he uses the truck to plow his own driveway. Imagine that.
Just pulling your collective chains. At $150 per driveway times two driveways and about ten plow days per winter the economics look good. I am not interested in plowing for $ just to be independent and not have to call and beg the SOB plow guy to do my two driveways for $150/pop for about 15 minutes work.

will be a wild eyed heretic ?????????

Why do you find a need to insult the advice from the members of this board? People have been pointing out what can go wrong with a truck when you plow, they have also given you some lessons from experience - That's IT! You are an Idoit!

Jeez- what a stupid thing to get all worked up about guys..

He's buying it to beat up. No different than one of us buying a 60 to cut up and make a trail beater.

My first reaction was based on the idea that he wanted to keep the truck for a long time, if he doesn't, so what? Then it just boils down to if the truck will be up to the task of plowing. Some good points have been made about price of parts, etc...

Cruzer,

Yes it is the one and I know that it has rust. The owner is away and I will check it out next week.
Thanks for the heads up on checking out the frame.

Zach,

Sorry that you are offended. The comment about being a heretic was not directed to anyone
who responded to my question. It was meant as humor. It appears that many on this board do not see LCs as work vehicles and thats OK. Maybe because I have spent too much time in parts of the world where they are work vehicles that I have different ideas. First time in 61 years I have been called an idiot. Thanks.

Holy cow! $150 per driveway, wicked pricy. Things are a lot cheaper up here.

If you want to buy a cruiser, buy a cruiser.
If you want to buy a plow truck, buy a plow truck.
If you want to buy a cruiser with a plow just realize that you're going to end up somewhere in the middle.

NEK VT,

And that price is for minimal snow and goes up to $185 for 12". I assume you are in Vermont. We have a house in Ludlow and we pay $30/storm which is very reasonable. I owned a Ford Ranger years ago that I plowed with for five years. Never had any mechanical issues with that truck other than normal wear and tear items . If a Ford Ranger can do it a Land Cruiser can do it ten times over.

I think for that price I could justify never plowing and buying my ultimate dream toy, a Snow-Cat :D, a bombi br-100 to be exact. Who needs a plow? I've actually been thinking (wishfully) about getting custom mattracks for the 60

I agree with Doc....not worthy of getting worked up...sometimes it's hard to "read" sarcasm on a forum. This forum is no different than many other enthusiast forums....some people treat cars/trucks as temples others use them as tools/toys...whatever....it's just cool that we're all here talking about it...

My plow 60

My 60 has has been a plow rig since it was new in 83. Just family property. Frame was fabricated. Just lifted it 2 yrs ago. Stock springs were fine but never had reason to ride around with the thing on except just before a storm.
1st time posting a pic. Hope it works.

Allfoden,
I am sorry for insulting you. You are correct, I read way tooooo deep into you comment. You are correct, I don't even know you, so I have no right to call you an idoit, again I am sorry! It's your truck and you should do as you wish with it. I wish you the best of luck with the plow, and when it get's put on please post some pics.

Throw a plow on it. If it breaks, fix it. That 2F is as close to a tractor engine as it comes. Sure, Cruisers have a religious mystique to some, I even feel that way sometimes. I think crawling through rocks to get to a destination is a waste of time, breaks parts, and is too slow for common sense. I will skip the hard trail everytime when a bypass is available. I like to see scenery. I have things to do and places to be. Screw inching over boulders. As such, I understand that others appreciate crawling over rocks. To each his own. I would beef up the springs up front, weld up a nice frame for the front, and throw a blade on that bad boy. To subject a rig to the Rubicon, Panamint, or Moab, and then say it can't handle a light duty plowing detail seems ludicrous to me. Winching through crazy obstacles and mud bogs at odd angles, running large tires, and climbing ledges would seem to be just as likely or more to cause parts damage as a basic approach to plowing the residential driveway. If we all lived in Canada, I bet this would be a well worn section in the FAQ's page. Having spent a lot of time in the Norden / Donner Summit area and living in the Spokane area for 2 years, I would have thrown a plow on my 84 FJ60 if needed, in a heartbeat. Good luck with your project and post pics if you do go this route.

No problem. I will try to be more careful in the future so people are not offended.

I sold a car to a local guy that I owned for a dozen years and never drove in the winter.
One day I saw him driving it to work in the snow and salt and could not understand how he could do that. But I realized that it was his car and he was enjoying it and that is what
matters. Maybe in the end he enjoyed it more than I did because he had fun driving it every day rather than sitting in a garage for the entire winter. The car was a Rolls Royce.

Thanks for all the responses. If I get a plow on the truck I will post some pictures.
