I would not support the drive train at more than 4 separate points. When the frame flexes you don't want the drive train trying to resist that as would happen if you had 6 support points.

Considering the SM465 is close to twice the weight of a Cruiser tranny I would support it.

If you pull the PTO covers on both sides and make new covers out of 1/4 plate, you can weld to, make a bottom mount with that and support with a new cross member. Then just remove the bellhousing mounts on the frame. Then your main weight is supported with more mechanical advantage, and can still float with frame motion. Energy Suspension makes a mount that looked like it would work perfect when I mocked this up. I ended up not installing though and went with an h41 instead, so YMMV.

Do you want to have the 3spd tcase on the back of the 465? The 465 provides a crossmember mounting location at the rear of the tranny. I think that having the motor mounts and then just one crossmember under the transmission is plenty. Basically I second what cruiser_guy said.

No it doesn't.

If you have a factory set up, like 465/205, or 465/203 the adapter between the two has the mount, but the transmission itself has no mount. On the adapter plates to Cruiser 3 speed transfer case, there is no mount I have seen, which is why people use the propeller mount.

Foolish me. I have not looked at the adapter that goes from 465 to Landcruiser case. I guess I assumed that the factory adapter stayed. I am aware the mount is on the factory adapter. Sorry. that's a bummer that when using that adapter you lose the mounting point.

A SM465 weighs in at 175lbs. SM420 almost the same. I ran a SM420 behind a stock 2f engine, plate adapter, and stock 3spd TC, for 10 years without any trouble. However, as others have pointed out, the AA does provide a support at cost of ~$500. Plate adapter, no. Finding a good plate adapter is hard. Very few shops make them. Only one I know about is in Colorado.

SM420 = 125 pounds, so significantly lighter. I run that now on my 40 with just the bellhousing mounts, and you're right, it's fine.

I wish Woody would make another run of SM465 adapter plates.
