fj55 fuel tank swap

Due to some problems with my old tank, I'm swapping in a new. The old tank has one fuel line that goes to the fuel pump. On the new tank I acquired, it looks as if it was meant to have two fuel lines in the same location. At least there are two fuel outlet nipples right next to each other. Now the problem is I'm not sure which nipple does what. My guess was that one was the actual tank to pump line, and the other was a vapor or fuel recovery/overflow line. The problem with this is that I cannot see inside of this area of the tank to verify if one of those nipples pokes down to the bottom of the tank. So does anyone know if one of these nipples really does go to the bottom of the tank. I do not want to hook up the tank and run out of gas even though the tank is half full.

Also, I was not using a stock tank, so mounting was completely different. It was mounted to the frame, not the body. Does anyone have any pictures of how the mounting brackets and such go?

Stock FJ55 gas tanks have a fuel line to the carb and a return line from the carb to the tank. The float in the carb maintains the level in the float bowl or switches the fuel flow back to the gas tank - at least for my stock carb. Going to guess that you'll need 2 lines. Don't know which one's which and the truck's in the shop waiting for a new head

I have a one barrel carb, which does not have a return line. I assume a return line is not necessary since my carb runs great and has been functioning for the last year and a half. Maybe this was a change in mid 1969 when the 2bbl was introduced.

check the tank fitment. there was a change for some reason in the shape of the tank for a crossmember which can make fitment of a later tank a pain.
