You know the frame dimensions of the 55 are almost exactly the same as an HZJ77, if you can find a deal on a mine truck you might be able to knock out the 1HZ and front coils in one shot ;-)

Congrats on the sweet pig!

Tucker

Hey Tucker, great idea with the coil buckets off the mining rigs.

Been reading some stuff by mudders who claim the minning stuff aint worth beans, beat to crap?

Rob

The '55 shell we got was from the LA area and it had rust perforation around the roof gutter area which is why I did the roof swap.

Guy is holding the truck called and said there are two spots on only two inches long and the other four inches that he thinks could push through.

Dude, is it still in Seattle? want me to take a look at it for you? Need a place to store it for a while?

pm me

K?!

Thanks, if he does not shoot me pics I will take you up on that offer.

Another fine Muder....

Nice score:cool: hope you got it for a song and dance:D
thats in MUch nicer shape that mine. Hopefully you still have floorboards:hhmm:

Boy congrats Robb, somehow I missed this. Looks clean!

I'd say the frameoff really is not too much more difficult, I would definitely recommend it. You don't have to go nuts but pull it off and blast it. Also do the roof cap mod I'm doing to preventatively get any rust. Even clean 55's suffer from it. Really you won't be more than a couple more days into it with the frame off I think...

Ya, thanks Andre.

Hope to pick it up in a week or so, also getting a 80 series at the same time, hope it can tow the 55.

I would be doing the build in the garage and would not have access to a hoist, so a frame on is going to have to do.

Edit,,, what is the roof mod, shot through your thread and did not see it?

Rob

Rob, just because you don't have access to a hoist doesn't mean a frame off is not possible! I swapped the frame on the BJ60 in a shop in Honduras with just a floor jack and a bunch of 2x4s'. We swapped bodies on the '55 in the back yard without even a big floor jack! You gotta get creative!!

Actually I have done a couple in the driveway, your right it can be done.

Best way I ever tackled the job was 50 buck for a high up truck and two straps, 10 minutes later and the body was on the frame. Way easier than the car hoist and trying to line up body mounts.

I guess I could build a dolly for the body and keep it all rolling or even a rotisery.

Body swap,no lift

Did this to get it up high enough to get the 55 frame out an the Chevy frame in .

Used stands to get the body closer to the frame and car dollies to move the frame n stuff around :D

Long story, I passed on it as the rear carners were stoved pretty badly and the one rear quarter was wrinkled pretty baddly.

He still has it and I am giving it some thought, I have several years of cruiser restoration behind me and welding in panels, hammering, dollying, shrinking and painting is something I am comfortable with.

Buttttttttttttttttttt, I really would like to start with a cleaner canvas.

Mind you, there is nothing on the market other than the one at TLC in Johnathans stable and he wants 6500 not running.

Edit, I did however get my hands on a BJ60 with a very tight 3B and five speed, will be my dailey driver until I find a piggy to swap in the running gear, considering dropping in the 6o series axles and swapping in the springs also.
Rob

Thanks for the update Rob. I'm thinking of buying a pig and swapping in a 1HZ with an H55 if I can find a decent pair.

Chris

That would be first choice in a engine, but 6500 for the 1hz compared to my low budget BJ60 I got for 1600.00 and can use axles, power steering box, solenoids, some of the wiring from the harness yadda yadda yadda.

It's still for sale, incidentally.... Nov 9 Craigslist.
