Too much to do...
I posted this in the 40 section, but no responses. I'd like to see what you guys think, as I think you all are more personable and more apt to chip in with help.
My FJ55 didn't come with any mirrors, and just before I bought some for it I won a Gentex interior rear view auto-dim mirror with a compass in it when they gave a presentation at the Ferris State career fair. So, I had an interior rear view mirror. Then, when working as an intern at Gentex I worked with the OEC mirrors (Outside Electrochromic Convex). This means that I was working with the very mirrors that my FJ55 needed. So, I thought to my self, "Self, you are working in a mirror factory, and they throw away so many mirrors every day that have non-conformities on them, but are perfect for a trail truck. So, why don't you see if you can get a pair or two?"
I also wanted ones with cool stuff on them, so I ended up with matching pairs, one blank, and two with the disclaimer "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear". However, one is in Arabic, one in Korean.
The downside is that they are to a Daewoo, so getting the mirror mounting bracket and housing is basically impossible, so I will fabricate my own. The only thing I need is a way to aim the mirror. So, this is my question:
Where can I get, or how do I fabricate, a ball-type multi-axis hinge for the mirror to be aimed? It can be either the housing mount, or inside the housing. I found some friction hinges on McMaster Carr like what we used at Gentex for building stuff, but no automotive hinges.
Thanks
