This is the relevant illustration from the 1964 FSM. Lights in the sheet metal (unless those are reflectors--interestingly enough, the electrical section does not mention a rear combination lamp for the FJ45P, only the FJ40, 43 and 45L).

That illustration is in the 1964 land cruiser FSM. It is identical to the one in the 1962 FSM (I just checked). Those circle within circle things where you would expect lights look like the symbols used for reflectors on all of the other model illustrations in those manuals. So, perhaps the FJ45P (yes, "P" for Pickup, which was short bed, P-B is the longbed pickup), at least in those years, did not have rear combination lights stock from the factory.

idave,
look at the 63 fj45swb in the classified section...the one dukes had for sale...than look at the ebay pic in my post of this tread....what would be the proper install?....drill holes in the bed and mount an fj 40 type fixture or mount something on the bumper?....kinda strange ain't it?

I'd bet there's no "proper" way, because I think they're add-ons. For myself, I'd just mount FJ40 combination lights with brackets on your bumper. I'd be interested in knowing if there is even a rear wiring harness for your FJ45P. It isn't mentioned in the 64 FSM (unlike the 45V and 40V rear harnesses).

Here's another 1963: aftermarket bumper and lights.

so some form of an fj40 rear bumper and the fj40 combo tailights?....i am glad you said that...i really don't want to go drilling hole in the bed

Yeah, for sure. Notice the 65 and 66s folks posted had factory indents in the bed for their lights.

Couple more 63s *edit: wait, no the bottom one is later removable top obviously*

here's some literature...the full pamphlets are 1963, but don't know what year the closeup is from. frame shot doesn't show brackets for taillights in the frame.

Ige's top picture looks like removable top

it looks like the 63 swb does not have the indents in the bed for the lights...even looking the factory brochure posted by nuclearlemon...i like the bumper set up on the tan one you posted....i think that may be the direction i head...i am anxious to get it home and get started!

I think the tan one was a Downey-off-road project: later removable top. But yeah, those rear lights look good.

wonder if it has to do with the location of the spare tire? looks like if it had door style carrier, they were frame mounted. mine had the spare tire carrier underneath, hence, body mounted lights.

if you don't have the brackets to mount them on the body (kind of like spacers), i'd put them on the frame if you intend on using your bed, otherwise, you'll have to have the backs sticking into the bed where they could get damaged.

ahhh...that seems to work well nuclearlemon!...he may struggle to get his polaris 4x4 something in there...maybe a small trailer would work better...especially if we lift it slightly and put tall skinny tires on it....i can hardly wait to drive to wyoming??!!
