fj45 rebuild to king cab, with pics 2012

I pucrchased this FJ45 about 10 years ago and did a blaze on it one year then moved west to Calgary.
So this is how she looks today, I have plans... ok ... hopes of bringing it out and finishing some minor things on the truck and driving it this summer 2012.

The original plan was to do a frame off rebuild , blaze like hell and then found out I still had more shop time left so...

The dream of a king cab came and alot of sleepless nights and many disregarded drawings were thrown out but at last once done, time was still available to drop a B diesel in that I had laying around.

All photos were taken with the old school camera untill the end when I got a digital.

It was a regular cab with 2f and cracked frame when I got it. Now it has a B with a 5 speed welded and galvanized frame and reupholstered split bench seats. Suspension Correction kit and stock leafs & a pto.

Future plans are a turbo with propane injection , 33'' , emergency brake conversion and some headlights and looking to make a few RMLCA meetings and possibly trail runs.

No plans of going power steering , I want to complain about something for a while. lol

Posing is my niece and my friend with 42.
The bj42 is a partial stainless rear tub nerf and front bumper.

Question : now that FJ45 is now a 4 cyl diesel what would the designation now be ?
What kind of turbo for a B motor ?

What else would you do to this truck ?

Any comments and suggestions of what else I can add to the truck are welcome !

Happy New Year ! 2012

I had some parts like a roof laying around with side window panels. The length of cab is a personal choice as my friend wants one longer, it's what you think you need. I went with 17''.
Thread : I would really like to but as the project happened before I had a dig. cam. I was using a disposable film cam and the pics are packed away. One day I will find the box they are in and scan them for a future thread.

A brief cronology of events that started in 2003 to 2005 :
The truck I bought in 1995.
helped friend rebuild his fj45 and he game me a frame he had.
> I welded and repaired it adding a correction kit then we galvanized both frames.
> I drove Kanga ( fj45 ) in the shop after my friend closed for the day Fri. eve. pulled the frame out and slid the galvanized one under , so to speak, and at 8am drove the truck out of the shop.
I had drawings I'd been working on for a king cab but didnt know when I would do it.
> My friend gave me more shop time so I drove the truck in another Fri. eve. pulled the 2f out and droped in a B and 5 speed I had sitting around and drove it out after pulling another all-nighter.
Then again Remi my friend with garage once again extended the offer and I started working on the king cab.
> This was not a one nighter but many many many evenings, weekends, and some days before the king cab would be complete.
During the process a lot of beer and pizza were consumed amoungst friends.
We did quite a few work parties charged by coffee beer and food.
The truck still needs an emergency brake adaptor for the 5 speed trany which I will need to get.
The split bench seats were reupolstered with some a@# warmers in them with a dial switch on the dash.
The Plan is to get her on the road in 2013 along with my bj42 so there will be a finishing thread to come...

I will keep an eye out for those pics.

Thanks for reading and asking !

Thanks
Cheers

45 king cab with pics 2012

Just a few more shots of the build up construction.
A work party commenced at a friends place and other friends stoped by to help out. ( yellow )
The yellow was then changed to rocker gard beige and black.
2013 The truck will likely become just beige and get street legal.

I guess you could call it a BJ45...?? or a BJ45 xc / 45 extra cab / BJ46

BJ would be 4 cyl diesel
HJ would be 6 cly diesel

I have wanted to do the same....well almost...Id like to shrink a 40 and add a bed

Yours is very cool

Diesel on gas?

That is very cool. I have an '82 FJ45 pickup tub which I plan to extend one day and put in a frame like you have made. Are you able to add propane to an indirect-injected diesel? Down here in Australia they will only do gas injection on direct injected diesels.

Cheers,

Josh

I have heard that one can go propane injection without the turbo on a diesel.
Check the diesel section as I was just informed myself for that info.

Ok ... BJ45xc
a few more pics of the king cab process and frame off and on process with old retro disposable camera.

I believe you can without a turbo, the issue as I understand it is that one cannot gas inject an indirect-injected (B, 2B, 3B, H, 2H, 1HZ, etc) diesel but rather only direct injected (1HD, 12HT, 13bt, etc). I might be wrong, but that is what the gas mechanic in Australia told me when I asked him about the gas system he was putting on an HJ61.

That's a cool truck John!
I saw one on the road the other day (passed it quickly, didn't see it well), had a large box, or small camper on the back. Yours?

Saw this heading down the Gold Coast yesterday. Prob a 40 lid.

it's now 2014 and best laid plans have been delayed.
Currently I have a mechanic lined up to do some work and a cartage co. in waiting to ship the truck out this year.
As she currently is waiting...

Well the Magical Day has come to ship the fj45 west to the land of sun and fun !
I had found a shipper through Uship.com where I put my details in and then received bids to haul my truck ( non-working e-brake ) to my home in the west !
I received many bids and this guy was the best price and his ratings were very good, he has kept me in the loop as to since he picked it up. I used Uship.com and Aaron (Acbarr1) won the bid. Excellent service and timely delivery.
Once I get her home then it's the final 5% of finishing work to be done though after sitting since 2006 there may be some other issues I may need to deal with.
I'm guessing there arn't any lenient out of province guys around are there ? ( pm me if you know someone ) this one's a keeper, it will be used seasonally and eventually get a new suspension in time along with some improvements where cash will be found !

I'll post up some new Aug.2015 photos when she arrives !
