FJ40 Windshield wiper linkage removal help

I've come back to the well of knowledge to post yet another "how do I...." thread. I promise I am documenting this project and will post a build thread soon. Anyway...
How do I remove the linkage from the windshield frame? Frame is off, wiper motor is off, wipers and caps are off. I assume the only thing holding the knurled studs in is the "packing" is that correct? if so, best way to remove. The is the part I need to get out of the frame:

should be a nut under the packing that releases them from the windshield frame.

peel off that rubber washer and it should come out, I assume it is tight to the shaft. They get hard over time.
