Ok, I started a hint about this a few weeks ago. This evening, I took a practice run at doing the required modifications.
Required parts:
FJ60 speedometer (85 MPH), has 1,000,000.0 odometer AND a trip odometer.
FJ40 85 MPH speedometer. You can use anything that has 80 or 85 as the top speed. 81 (80 MPH but has a 85 tick), 82/83 (the nicer ones, 85 MPH). These are VERY expensive and hard to find. I suggest you do not tell the seller what you are going to do.
Dremel type tool, small straight edge and 6" digital calipers to lay out the needed cuts (on the expensive face)
Here are pictures.
1st shows both donor speedometers
Next: the guts of the speedometers. both have same 2 mounting holes and depth (fron to back)
Next: picture shows back of FJ40 face with cuts scrided (for the million mile part)
Next: FJ40 face mounted on FJ60 mechanism
Next: (final on this set of pictures, shows face BUT look, see t5he trip odometer button just above the high beam indicator... not bad.
Next set of pictures will show the trip odometer window cut.
I will be doing a miniture amount of body work on this to fill the original window and maybe a little work on the top edge of the upper window. I don't like the cut being on the offset, but so far so good.
