I do not think anyone is really making skid plates anymore or out of stock. I have a really nice one that I bougth and they are NLA. I am considering having some made. My question is, is there still a demand for them?

It would be similar to this.

I need to see what cost are going to be and how many need to be made. In the past they sold for around $400

Let me know your thoughts.

That is the Iron Pig Off Road design; sorry to hear that they are not making them any more. They work really well (that is mine in the photo above).

Is it going to be a mud trap, seems like mine has some stiffened big drain holes. And those line up with tranny and transfer drain plugs. I'm not even sure where mine is at or if I even still have it. $400 seems high to me but I'm old and poor so it is likely a fair price today. You should stick a couple of big washers with big holes so folks could weld in re-enforcements for their own drain plug locations.

Good luck! I really like to see people making parts for our old rigs.

Yes, It is an Iron Pig skid plate. Hope you do not mind me stealing your pic. I have one as well. I do not go through enough mud or deep mud to trap anything in there really and it is flat so it does not get hung up on drain holes. As far as changing fluids, that is not something that happens often so to remove 6-8 bolt to service it, that is not a big deal in my opinon.

I am not going to get into the politics of IPOR not selling them anymore, but I have his concent to do this, if I choose to do so. I would be doing this as a individual not a company so it would change things. They weigh a bit so it would cost some coin to ship it across country. Good thing is I end up driving across country 1-2 times a year.

I am looking to make a run of about 10 to make the price worth it.

I have had one with a stock 2f, H42 and case, a v-8, and now a v-8 H55f split case combo, It has worked for all of them.

No sweat!

Good luck with making and selling them; I would buy another if I had another 40.

Dave Gore also has a design that is very stout but does not advertise.

I am going to modify my 4 speed skid plate to work with my H55F and split case and looks like it will not take much and will have to shim it down to clear the transfer case.

I am running a H55f and split case in my 77 behind a SBC. works fine.

Don't think the split case is really that much lower. Laying a 8/80+ on a 7/80 early four speed skid really pretty close.

Using a stock 8/80+ OEM rear motor mount and mounted the pre 8/80 skid plate probably covers a H55F pretty good except the drain hole will not line up.

8/80 four speed case behind a stock rear mount.

Comparing the pre 8/80 four speed skid plate, 8/80+ four speed skid plate and the H55F five speed skid plate.
