fj40 roof rack

I was at specter yesterday and saw this rack. The 40 lacks the space I like for long desert trips. (spoiled by my pig :) ) I was thinking about modding a jeep rack as they are 500$ cheaper or just make the supports out of 1'' tubing and fiting it to a rack.






Oh it is 850$

I think a rack that big would tempt you to get to much weight up there. The COG on a 40 isn't that great to begin with. I'm thinking of one half that size and restricting the cargo to tents and sleeping bags.

it would be for tents and things the heavy stuff fule cans hylifit shuvel and such is on the truck now

Did you figure out this roof rack mod? I'd like a lightweight roofrack in this style to load lighter camping gear. Not sure if I'm going to use hardtop or soft or bikini, but my hardtop has fiberglass gutters, so I'm concerned about damage, and how strong they'd hold the rack.
