Wanted fj40 4wd won't engage/part missing

my 1977 fj40 will not go into 4wd due to the small part missing that connects the shifter to the shaft on the transfer case. Looking under my buddy's truck, it appears to be about a half inch in thickness and screws into the arm that engages the 4wd. I wish I knew the name of the part so I wouldn't sound like an idiot describing it. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me get my hands on this part or suggest another solution.
