You'd have to check the owners manual, but generally ANY rig rated to tow a certain weight will handle 10% of that weight on the tongue...ie: 5000# towing capacity = 500# tongue weight.

500# tongue weight

what the hell is a tongue?

Should be fine. I know mine is, but it only weighs about 175lbs. :D

ahhh that explains it :)

Tongue weight is the amount of weight the coupler of the trailer presses down on the hitch ball.
In your case 5500lbs should have a working tongue weight of 550 lbs. In my opinion this is to much load for a short wheelbase rig.
If you really need to tow this you should install a tranny temp gauge if you running an auto.
And a weight distributing hitch will also make towing this much a far safer experience as you will be able to put more weight on the front axle.

Pretty sure max capacity is 5000, not 5500. And max tonge is 500.
I will be testing this out on the weekend. Will be towing a trailer (2000lbs) with a Suzuki LWB on it. Should be pushing the 5000 mark. But I have the OME heavies. Should be acceptable.
