I use a stock form now that most mechanical shops use. It states clearly that if you do not pay the bill, you dont get the vehicle and anything left past 10 days is charged a per day fee for storage. It differs from state to state but most states also have laws that state if it is left not paid for longer than a specific period the vehicle is forfitted to the shop that holds the lein. Just make sure that the owner is made aware and signs the form when dropping it off.

It can be a pain but you have to cover your butt.
