Thought I'd share my hard top removal install. Got some ideas from this forum, but haven't seen anything recently, so figured I'd renew if there is interest. Use a Harbor Freight hoist (440# limit w/ pulley) and tow straps to sling to top. Garage ceiling height is 13'+, so rented a scissor lift for install - absolutely essential. May be over-engineered, but works well - and better over, than
n under, engineered. Have some straps added for safety factor once in place. Easy to get top off, just took some time to remove bolts. Has original length posts on top - haven't sawed down as discussed - pipe insulation and orange paint over to posts may save my forehead, although I can walk under without problem (I'm 5'11"). Got 2" square steel pipe and secured it to mounting boards on ceiling using some channel I got at a fence company and then used a cutting wheel to cut to 5" length. Approx $175 in materials, and $185 for the scissor lift for the day.
