I sold my 72 FJ55 to my little brother-- so this question is really for him. The front driver's side window is no longer moving up and down. The handle just spins. We took off the handle to make sure it wasn't the problem, and verified that it is the window regulator-- the little knob on the regulator just spins but the window doesn't move.

Any idea if this can be fixed? We haven't tried to remove window regulator, although removing it looks pretty simple from the explanation in the FSM.

In the alternative-- anybody have on for sale?

Again, it is for the front driver sides. And this is for an early 72 that has the vent wings.

Thanks

i dont remember if the regulator comes apart or not, its been a while. it could be fixed, maybe with what ya have maybe not. there is definatly some regulator parts for sale out there, look back a bit in the classifieds i remember a few doors being parted a month or so back.

The "spinner" that the handle attaches to is a kind of press fit in it's housing. It has a nub that protrudes out of the housing, and sometimes the housing rounds out, giving too much slop fot the mechanism to engage. You might be able to use a punch and reshape the hole to make it work, but I doubt .it Also, check to see if any of the regulator arms are bent. If so, you can bend them back straight, but they have already been weakened, so it's just a matter of time till it happens again.

Take the regulator out and check it. As you said, it's pretty easy to do.

Good luck finding another one, though. There becoming golden for the D/S front. I was lucky enough to find one recently here on Mud, but it took a while.

Now if I could just find a replacement latch mechanism

My driver side regulator is shot too, while I try to find another one I'm also wondering...is the rear any easier to find? The regulator, spring, etc, are the same as the rear door, so if you drill out the pin that attaches the big "gear" (what is that thing called again?) to the first piece of linkage, can you install a regulator from a rear door? What do you replace that pin with?
