Ok I have started my late model fj40 (I think its a 79' firewall) firewall swap into my 64; fj45lv and had a question or 2.
I have the hole cut and the firewall section squared and rough fitting ok. I lhave pics and will post later. Anyway with this swap I will achive 3 things i will have the proper set up for a clutch MC and Brake booster to co exissit on the same firewall and I will have the right openeing and bolt pattern for a later modle steering colum set up which will work well with tmy saginaw set up.
so all that said I went to dry fit the later model cluctch and brake pedel bracket attached tothe firewall and the top of the clutch pedel bracket is right where the defrost vent is!!! so it looks like my only option is to cut out the drivers side defrost windsheild vent and figure a way to use some thing else in its place.
what have others done? my searches are not turning up anything.

ok I decided to just cut the vent out cut the tub down an inch then remount the vent over an inch and clamp a section of rubber hose over the exposed sectios of the metal hose. anyway here is a pic of the clearance issue with the vent out. the vent used make the elbow turn right where the top of the brake pedal housing is int he picture now. so I will just move it to the right an inch and be fine.

I am guessing that the LV has different vents than the 40 and the 45 pickups. I doubt there would be a clearance issue with the other models but I haven't looked.
