Where did you find those? I was thinking the exact same thing and have been looking for 2 small extinguishers to fit in those.

I'm gonna assume your askin' me. I found them at Ace Hardware they are made by I believe "First Alert". They fit perfectly.

Found these two gems today. Noone in my vehicle ever uses the bottom drink holders in the suicide door, so it's perfect. I put two in. One on each side. They fit tight to so they don't roll around or move, so no need to use the included brackets.

Are they too secure, making it difficult to remove in an emergency? If not, then I might have to try mounting in that location.

No. You just pull the top out towards you and it comes out easily.

I wrote my first reply to compliment what I saw. When my reply was broken down, words were highlighted using "quotes" and then the addition from AARONSCA saying his work was ghetto.... at least implied that he thought i must be crazy to think his carpentry was more than ghetto and I must be crazy for thinking it looked sharp. I then turned to logic. Compiled the little evidence I had to go off of and formed a theory. I added the 20 posts, the avitar of Mr Garrison, and the complete list of mods AARONSCA as done to his FJ, "none, is almost to much to list", I came to the sarcastic conclustion he must have a bad ass truck with a need to put a fire out on his rig sometime while driving down the highway stuck in traffic.

truck with no mods = street queen. street queen is also referred to as a pavement queen. if the only mod AARONSCA has chosen to put on his truck is a fire retardant....then logic leads me to think the mental capability of the person in the drivers seat isn't much more than the fluid the extingisher holds.

A stock FJ has its best chance of catching on fire by being douced by diesel fuel and having a lit match thrown at it.

If I miscalculated, or misunderstood the reply back to my compliment then I would be an ass not to offer an apology concerning my words. If this is the case, and I read it completely out of context (which I have done before) then my words would be an inaccurate description in AARONSCA's case. :hhmm:

Having one sided arguments on bulletin boards is no way to go through life, Son. I'm still trying to figure out how you took offense at me poking fun at myself.

For the record:

1. My rig does see dirt occasionally.
2. No, I don't have a ton of mods. If I could do any mod, it would be a lower low range, a la the TeraLow I had in my old rig. Next up would be a modest lift.
3. I have a fire extinguisher in my rig for the same reason I have jumper cables, tire chains, tow strap and some basic tools. It's called being prepared.

Take it easy, will ya?

AARONSCA- This was my disclaimer at the bottom of my post. I obviously misinterpretted your reply, therefore I would be an ass not to offer an apology. So I will apologize again. Didn't know you were making fun of yourself, cause like i said, i thought it looked good.

Anyway, it gets the job done and from the pic looks very good. Also want to apologize about my assumptions as well. I too carry the goods you have, just not the extinquisher. Hence my inquiry!:)

ps. I do like that you called me "son", makes me feel young!

and maybe on a lighter note, not to poke fun or upset anyone, the few of us looking at these cool mounts and set ups could vote on if that pic was cropped or not!!

Guys-IMO, those extinguisers are too small to be of any real value (unless you catch a fire in the first 3 seconds).

I carry two 5 pounders...I'll bet those units you have, have a duration of about 5 to 7 seconds B4 it sputters dry!

i had written down te specs for the smaller one, for this reason...i wanted duration. There as one I got, I will have to go out and check the brand, that fit in the cup holders in the back. I got it at a seadoo store, and there were a couple that were similar in sized. the price is where duration came in. it wasn't 5 pounts..but it wasn't a b4 either.

I wasn't tryin' to be a putz...just realistic. A small one is better than nothing, everyone should just be realistic as to their expectations. There's likely going to be a delay between the first indication of a fire and the time you actually begin dousing it.

The there's a lot of debatable fire retardants to choose from as well:

The ABC gooey, corrosive but effective stuff...Halon (may not work well in open, windy conditions), CO2 (it'd have to be a LEAST a 10 pounder), etc...

Last but not least: Prevention is worth a 10 pounder of cure! Don't do half-a$$ed wiring jobs, play with fuel lines (if you're not sure of what you're doing), and i wouldn't recommend cooking meat on the engine either!

Heh. I had a fire in my engine bay about a month or two ago. Was running a fuse block and had to screw it through the firewall...had a stereo shop install my 0-gauge wire...couldn't follow it properlly since he had epoxyed the hell out of the whole area. Was 100% sure that I wasn't going to hit the the 0-gauge....did.

Now heres the thing....That was the night before...drove it that night, woke up in the morning went to college, got him and started to work on the car...when I started it up just to check some settings, noticed black smoke coming out of my hood...had to put out the flames by hand (not fun). No major damage was caused, but when I mounted the fuse block one screw went right through the 0-gauge...thankfully the day before when I was just driving around or leaving my car while I was in class that didn't happen...it pierced the 0-gauge where the epoxy was...epoxy lit fire. Not fun and one of the scariest experiences of my life.

I put it out in time though, only the 0-gauge was toasted, all the other wires were fine. Very, very close call though. Thank god the interrior insulation around the fire-wall is flame retardant...if it wasn't, I would have without a doubt had an exterior and interrior fire. I ended up re-running everything safely.

This is one reason why I hate, and rarely if ever will let people work on my car. I hate having to follow other peoples work, it's dangerous if you can't follow it right, and half the time they don't do as good of a job that you can do. He drilled through the sharp firewall and just fed the wire through...so the wire was resting on sharp metal and epoxyed around it. When I re-ran it I used a small stinger grommet and popped it in the whole so that the wire rested on THAT and not the metal...and now I know exactly where the wire runs into the cab from since I cleaned up all the nasty epoxy and resealed with clear silcone.
