I heard that there is some secret counter in a piggy that allows us to calculate the actual mileage as long as the speedo cable has been hooked up for the life of the vehicle. Is this true to anyone's knowledge?

its the little box on the firewall that the speedo cable goes in and out of, typically its over the e-brack bracket. just take the cover off and you will see an odo,,,, this is assuming yours has it of course, not all do.

the little box is pretty useless so its often removed. its an egr counter that counts either 4 times faster than odo, or four times slower. cant recall. Its only on 1/'75-8/'76...

It does have a odometer inside, with numbers etc, but not easily directly comparable.

I was bored one night and counted revolutions and it was one of the two options above. cant recall.

Brett would this be why there are update and aftermarket 1 pc speedo cables?
