As our aging vehicles get older, sometimes we are giving the opportunity to put a new, or gently used, engine in our 80. There are lots of swap threads that I have read here. But, I have not read any advice on how to pick a good engine for a salvage yard. With no chance at getting any history, how does a person know the engine will be any good?

One thing I thought of is having the salvage yard do compression test.

Y'all have any other advice?

Thank you,
