After seeing those pics, there is only one conclusion I can draw: when I finish my 80, I will be buying a 100. I will "trick" my wife into thinking she needs a new DD. Buy a 100 and then a few months later I will "borrow" it for a day and come home with 305's and an OME suspension. Damn it, why did you post those pics!? Now I am really in trouble! Land Cruisers rule.

I took those pics of Amando :D
(with his awesome camera)

My rig was the next in line to hit Hell's Gate. Serious pucker factor on that obstacle.

I don't think there was anything that Amando tried that he couldn't do with the 100. It was very impressive on the trail. IIRC, his has a factory rear locker and ARB up front. He made his own bumpers -- they turned out very nice.

"Everything you can think of has been installed such as second gas tank, two custom bumpers, snorkel, supercharger, larger rear springs & 35" BFG." (by snook)

I dont think everything is the right word and also is there such a thing with a Land Cruiser? I told my wife I spend money on the truck, my camera, my bicycles and her (hot necessarily in that order :-) )

Doug Johnson did take the photos so thank you very much Mr. Johnson (hehehe) I showed those same photos to a buddy mine that owns an H2 and he couldn't believe it. He didn't think that was possible. So now he is shopping for a used 80 and selling the H2. Hopefully his wife will give him a "weekend pass" so he will be in Moab with me.

Anyway, I am going back to Moab again and will do another run with Christo, oh by the way whoever goes on his run make sure you keep up on the "Rally Stage" at the end. WRC style!

James, the truck is locked front and rear, the supercharger doesn't help me on the trails (well except competetion hill on Pismo). It does have a second gas tank, for now the torsion bars is cranked and with OME shocks, the rear has OME 863 springs and OME shocks. It had Interco SSR 35x10.50x16 at the time it did Moab but now it has BFG KO's 315x75x17 (from an H2) It's not really a rock crawler or anything, but it can.

Anyway, that's all folks I am glad that the photos can convey on how much fun (or whatever you want to call it) we are having in a Land Cruiser. :-)

Amando

Very nice, I like all your pics too (good work Doug!). Do you have pics of your bumper buildup? That seems extremely difficult-haven't seen it painted yet..is it?
That's impressive 35's fit with only a minor lift.

What type of cycling? I race road, CX and XC (well haven't done XC for a while..)

I did road mostly criteriums and 1 mountain bike race. that was a while ago. hehehe.

The bumper, I have some photos, it was Snook and I that did the bumper and I finally jut used OSH primer.

One of the great things about LC's is the shape of the wheel wells. In most American trucks they have squarish wheel wells so they have to lift it so high to clear the tires, you figure if they wanted low center of gravity they would modify the shape of the wheel wells. but ....

You really should come to Moab in your truck, you would come back with lifetime stories and with a grin on your face.

Uh, please explain....should I not be looking at LX if I plan to go offroad or are there repairs or other mods required for your LX before you'd bring it? Inquiring minds want to know.

The one that was built up got sold. Right now I have a stock one that is waiting for it's turbo charger to be installed this month. Not sure I will get the mods done to make it go through Golden Spike.

It is not that bad of a trail, however to be teched in for Cruise Moab for that trail, you need two lockers.

OK....I've done some research, read books, looked at a lot of pictures and am stuck. Need your help. Amando and Christo please jump in. Here's my dilemma:

After seeing all those pics I'm salivating to take my 80 there too. I see the huge ledges and all those options and crave to take the 80 I built just for that stuff. With my cut frames, reduced size and custom bumpers I can see that I can try things most 80's can't. This has me hooked.

Taking the 100 has me hooked too. The way it's built I'm sure I can run most trails there sucessfully. My concern with the 100 is two-fold:
1. I don't mind a few bumper scrapes and the like, though I don't want body damage. I have an 80 for those real risky trails.
2. Fun factor. While the 100 will be a blast to run those trails with, I'm concerned I'll really wish I had the 80. Since fun is what this is all about I'm stuck!

HERE'S MY QUESTION:

If I bring the 100, I'd like to run Golden Spike, Fis and Things, and Poison Spider Mesa and possibly Hell's Revenge. What are may chances of bumper/body DENTS. I don't mean scrapes. What about dents? The 100's bigger than the 80.

(If I bring the 80 I'll run Hell's, the Spike, and either Pritchett ro Behind the Rocks.)

WOW...........talk about a thread hijack :D

great pics Shott's, me and Connnie looked at almost all of them last night;

Hee hee....sorry about that. You know me though....with the non-believers out there, I'm ready to pounce on comments from newbie 100 lifters/wheelers...like you made. As soon as you take that 100 of yours out into the BAD stuff you'll REALLY be a believer. We're ready to read your comments!

What do you mean the "the frame is the tire limiter"?

I have a couple of merlin extralights for road and mtb.

The frame rails, ua-arms and body mounts - 35's won't clear them.

I ran a LS Vortex last year- loved it! Titus Racer-X for XC (new XTR is sweet!)

Looked through all your pics of CM! What happened to that one 80 with Alvaro and Doug hanging on the front bumper during that steep climb? (around picture #34?I think gold colored) Looks like he had more trouble than the rest... great pictures all around, I'll def. plan for CM!

Cruise Moab? I take it if one signs up for Golden Spike then what we really get is the first part of Poisen Spider Mesa, then the Golden Spike Trail, then exits via the Gold Bar Rim? In other words it really doesn't make sense to sign up for PSMesa and the Spike. Too much of the same?

I think the canyon is just the Hells Gate pictures of Amando. Almost everything is a 'canyon' in Moab. I saw several vehicles go up Hells Gate and daaaamn...I chickened out, even though I knew I could but it was my very first day in Moab and I was NOT useto the steepness, wheeling in Colorado doesn't prepare you for that. :D

Sweet pics..hell sweet rigs. Amando (cool name on here btw) post some pics of your bumpers if you can, that would be great to see.

Wouldn't surprise me a 40 rolled on any of those trails, if you aren't paying attention you are toast on just about any trail there, when they say to put your tire HERE, they mean it, not 6" that way, but HERE :D. Fairly mentally tough I think, but very fun! :D

That was Robbie Altonson's run through Hell's Gate. Robbie had a couple spots where he lifted his front end a little more than was comfortable. Alvaro and I thought that five or six hundred extra pounds up front might help.

It had rained a bit earlier that day so the slickrock was a little slicker than normal ;) Others had problems with traction, but it seemed like the Swampers he was running didn't grip as well on the sidewalls as the MTRs did. As a result, he had to ride a little higher on the passenger side...which caused his DS tire to lift up very high.

Several guys running that obstacle came out with an extra scar or two that day -- it's a STEEEEEEP climb

Here's a link to a video of what could go wrong on Hell's Gate. I had this rolling in the back of my mind as I was headed uphill.

That looks scary as hell, and knowing the camera makes stuff look easier... I don't hve the nads for that!

Did that Jeep roll b/c she didn't pay attention to the spotter? Looks like he was telling her to turn but she went straight.
