Hello,
I have a vacuum operated 4wd setup on my early FJ pickup. The cable is still there and the 4wd actuator moves when you push and pull on it, but it is hanging loose under the hood and the knob is missing, possibly another piece of hardware as well. Can anyone tell me how the original setup went together and how the knob attached to the cable? Heres what I have:

For reference only...there are 2 lengths of engagement cables. If you call someplace like SOR (they have used cables) they will give you a choice but no guidelines. The cable length is based upon where your vacuum actuator is located...to the inside or outside of the firewall rib. As far as I can determine, the location of the actuator is determined by whether you have a factory installed heater or not. So, no factory heater, long cable. Factory heater, short cable.

As far as the knob itself goes...good luck! When you find one, try to grab a second for me b/c I've been looking for a while:)

Thanks for the replies, very helpful. Hopefully I can dig one up and find a knob for it, its a real drag to open the hood to engage the 4wd. This system is quaint, but needlessly complex. If anyone has these parts Id be happy to buy them from a fellow enthusiast. As far as my truck goes, its just your average FJ45swb.
