have a 89 dxl with a 22re (auto) some where and some how the water and oil mixed, kept over heating so i changed the therm didn't help much as i was using water like crazy. my question is my buddy as a new head gasket kit for his 22r but ordered 2 can the hg for the 22r be used on the 22re ?

I believe so, but you should probably diagnose it as teh HG before you just replace it . . . you can also get mixing from a broken timing chain guide allowing the chain to eat through the timing cover into the water pump housing (rattle rattle noise) - if it runs OK but you're still using alot of coolant, start there by taking off the valve cover and looking down teh length of the chains to see if the guides are broken - pressure test the cooling system to see where it's leaking - do a cylinder leak-down test or compression test to see if the HG is good or not

yeah the gaskets will interchange

dude if you have been runnin it with chocolate milk in the crankcase, shame on you!!

i would not be surprised if you got serious engine damage

and since you ran it, you must flush/clean out ALL that old chocolate milk, that is if the engine isn't already toast

you drive a land rover, too??

the truck wasn't mixing at the time it was just getting hot then cooling down to normal but after i finished a job i was doing i started back home (30 min drive maybe 40 at the most) but i started to head to advance or some where to get them to look at it but i made it maybe 5mins up the road and then i turned into a slug creeping through a intersection stoped in the parking lot across the street lifted the hood and well it was leaking oil like a mofo but it was thick i already took off the valve cover the chain has a lil play but i can't lift it up off of the pully at all i drained all the milk shake out as well. plan on new HG,pumps, gaskets and prob a new head. i just hope the block is still ok but all the local shops say it should be fine

the block and crank/bearings should be fine, they were for me when i had a sililiar expeirience, once you get it all back together put 3 quarts of oil in it(i also used a used 3000 mile pre-head gasket problem oil filter) disconnect your coil wire and crank the motor 10 times in 15 second intervals with a few minutes pause in between cranks,....then replace the oil and filter.....i did this to attempt to flush the milkshake out of my oil galleys and crank/bearings before actual engine ignition......since then ive gone 12000 miles in 19 months with no problems.......good luck

thanks PGH854runner i hope so to being that i just had brain sugery i can't do it my self :( but i found some useful stuff a head ready to go with the gasket and all for around 300 and a timing kit with thr pumps from mizumoauto for 60 and a old school shop to do it for 250-300

<<repsonding to the other threads and this one that i posted in the land cruiser threads MB) i could call the local auto parts stores like autozone or advance but what good would it do that would tell me one thing then when i go to purchase the parts their always the wrong s***. wrong therm, gasket wrong valve cover gasket wrong brake pads ( to small) even gave me the wrong shocks their s*** isn't organized as good as their computers are. for a lil inscope i bought the yota from my grandpa $150 (1st owner never worked on it cept for the water pump and alternator) everything else was good, high miles timimg was off a lil but not much. i'd rather get my info from fourms and guys like my self who dont mind trying it on their own needless to say it prob was the timing chain but it still need'd head work
