The Surrey Amateur Radio Club is in the process of putting together a ham class this fall. We are currently working on confirming the dates and location but if you are interested please let me know and I will get your names added to the pre-registration list or contact Mike Plant directly. I will pass on more information as I get it or check out SARC webpage.

how intense is the course, previous experience needed? would be interested about what it entails, ie whats covered etc.

ur help and info would be appreciated as i looked at their website but didnt see a lot of info on the course itself

matt

Depending on the night, I will be there again. But then I am a Surrey club member. I missed too many classes from the last one. Please no Wed or Thur nights. Otherwise I'll just study up on my own and try to be there for the exam. Perhaps I will be able to make the next SARC meeting -if work doesn't get in the way like this month.:meh:

Getting a HAM licence isn't really all that hard. Mostly common sense stuff and a little radio theory. I studied on my own and got a "Basic+" certification though I'd have liked a class setting.

The course will take you from having little to no experience to being able to pass the test and have a good understanding of the basic's. There will be a construction project and other things that go beond what you will need for the exam but should keep things interesting.

If the dates work out I will be assisting with the class and might even be able to learn enough to tackle the Advanced exam..

Regardless if you take the course or not the Quizers are the key to passing the Exams. The couse will give you a better understanding of what it is all about and how to do things, but is not required.

There are lots of examiners around and if you chose not to take the course I can still put you in contact with one of them when you are ready.
