My drums are where they should be since I fixed the E-brake. They fronts aren't grabbing but after a double pump they do but pull to one side. I had the same thing awhile back and had my regular mechanic look at them. He mentioned the bearing pre-load thing.

The only way (that I can see) that a bearing preload could affect the brakes, is if the wheel (rotor) was allowed to move side to side (by loose bearing preloads) causing the pads to be pushed back off the rotor more than than if the rotor was static. Then when you hit the brakes you will have more pedal travel before the pads actually contact the rotor. I doubt this is the case, but jack up your front end and try to move the wheel up and down, if it moves at all youve got a preload problem.

Are you asking how to set a preload? If so tourqe down the inner 54mm nut until you cant anymore. than back it off just a tad. then use a fish scale or something to see how much force needs to be applied to A WHEEL STUD to rotate. work the nut until you see about 12 ftlbs. then install the lock washer and the outer 54mm until it is tight, then re measure the force needed to rotate. This entire thing must be done with the caliper off.

Does that make sense....dummy.:flipoff2:

Tighten the inner nut to 48 lbs/ft. rotate it. back the nut off to loose. rotate the rotor. repeat. then tighten the inner nut to just feeling resistance, about 40 lbs/in.

It's tough on a 60 to leave them too loose. The calipers won't fit on.

Over tight can cause the bearings to overheat and cause a fade, among other problems.

Bad master can cause a sinking pedal as well.

Jeez Phil....that is two very helpfull post direct at you with only one smart ass comment. What happen here? Is it pity?

Thanks for the input guys! My FSM took a walk and I'm lost without it. I printed your destructions and will head out to the garage shortly. The FJC is back at the dealer. Seems one of my idler pulleys gave up and caused the bolt holding it in to back out a bit. The pulley was wiggling like a crack head then launched the belt. My guy is going to cover it under warranty so no big deal here.

I'm feeling the love from my interweb friends Tom. Friends are cool. You ought to try them sometime!
