1988 2h, no doubt about it the factory gauges are shiite. Yonks ago I put in a marshall mechanical gauge under hood which calibrates with my on dash autometer oil pressure gauge, totally more accurate than factory. Before covid they were affordable.
I just put in an ozzie engine guard from rosco's recommendation, they are ace, thanks mate.
Nothing like just seeing the led number exact fluctuations. Boom.
So running temp ranges from 71c and the highest has been 86c going up steep hill vigorously, hot day, moderate carry weight load, 300kg or so.

The factory gauges only moves a little.
What temp would be the highest one would hope to see anyone please? Surely not over 90c?100c?

ok, should have consulted manual first but may as well share.

thermostat low temp type 80-84c fully opens at 95c, travels 10mm if in good nick.
thermostat high temp type 86-90c fully opens 100c

I like the low temp type, gets hot enough here.

The engine guard bolts directly to the head, nutso easy installation. Perhaps the actual head temp is 1-2c degree cooler than the actual coolant. But I am happy not to reach 100c myself if I don't have too.
