Has anyone installed an EZ or other aftermarket harness on a diesel? An H specifically. I am goin to have to bite the bullet and get one but am trying to get all my homework done ahead of time. Did you just use one of the extra circuits for the glow plugs? How did that tie into the ignition switch or did you just run a seperate push button?

Are you using an H with an EDIC motor? I know some of them didn't have the EDIC so it may not be an issue for you.

I have not done an aftermarket harness but the only problem I would see is adapting the EDIC circuit if you need to. The glow plugs would most likely not be part of an aftermarket wiring harness due to the size of the wire required to carry the current. You could wire it to the ignition so the plugs can only be energized if the key is in the run or start position but that wouldn't require a dedicated circuit.

Yes. It is an EDIC but I can bypass if need be. I knid of like the "EJECT" button idea someone else did. I am not even sure if my EDIC motor works.

The EDIC does make things easy but can be problematic when they act up. I think many people replace them with a hand operated cable.

EDIC isnt stricly necessary thou, for example 12HT doesnt have edic and only wires going to engine are glows and couple sensors (oil pressure, water temp)... Should be rather easy to slap another set of wiring on it...

The 12HT and H are very different engines. The direct injection 12HT will start much easier than an indirect-injected H. I wouldn't want to try to start my H without the overinjection feature the EDIC provides.

Yet they still share the same base-engine... Also the over-injection feature of edic can be converted into cable-actuated...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing but with a steel rod. Kind of a push kill pull start deal. I suppose I could run the glow plugs as a seperate heavier wire off of the ignition.

that would work too, just add a button for glows and you should be all set...

I ordered the harness yesterday and expect to get it tomorrow or Monday. I'll try to take pics and let everyone know how it goes.

Is there voltage drop coming through the harness?

The stock wiring for the glow plug circuit runs the current through the coil that glows red in the dash. That big glowing resistor drops the voltage. If you don't use it you'll most likely toast the stock 8.5v plugs sooner or later. (I assume you won't be using it since you don't have the stock harness.)
