NJ, god help me.
for towing with the FJ, what do i need to get? from what i know the FJ can tow 5,000lbs properly equipped. the only towing equiptment that my FJ has on it right now (That i know of), is the tow hitch. what else would i need to get in order to tow a trailer with an ATV (6 wheeler) on it?

Your gonna need a 2" ball mount and the correct size ball that
your trailer takes. If your trailer takes a ball. Also make sure you get the correct size drop on the ball
mount according to how high/low your trailer sits. Probably just a standard 2 incher. FJC has a 4 prong plug.

Fair warning....at first towing takes some getting used to with the FJC.
At least for me it does. I can barely see my boat when its on. Very top of the seats.
What part of NJ you in?

has anyone installed a trailer brake controller? where did you put it?

Well, they installed the brake controller for me.. and placed it without asking... probably the only spot it could go... under the dashboard right of the steering-wheel...I'm rather tall.. 6.3 and sometimes I hit the unit..
If I find one that can be build IN the plastic underneath the dash, I'm going to change it..
Also on this model.. the manual adjustment is like adjusting a toaster.. burned or cold...
If you stay in the limits.. no need for a trans cooler.. unless you're going to use the Fj+trailer for racing.

what are you towing?

Here in California, if a trailer is over 3,000 lbs you are supposed to have trailer brakes. I believe this is fairly new legislation. Also if you are pulling an airstream trailer you might double check the weight when loaded. Water, food personal items etc. I would think you will be at or past the max tow capacity.

Nice!

I just got an Airstream too! 16 ft Bambi Safari. They Rock! Just towed it for the first time the other day. You can definatley tell its back there, but it moves it along pretty good. Am taking a trip up to Vancouver Island BC in a couple months so that will be the real test. I went with the OME HD rear lift so it doesn't sag bad at all. How long you had yours?

Also, you should remount the brake controller on the fuse box door and order a spare door. When you aren't towing, pop the door off, disconnect the wires and push them in the opening, and throw the controller and the fuse box door all together into the jockey box until you need it again. The spare door was about ten bucks and your knee and shin will thank you.

No. Should I? I have only towed a couple miles so far.

What all did they do for the sway control?

I bought a trailer controller that does not have to be level and mounted it back in and on the far left side of the interior, way out of site and mind, I also had the factory trailer plug and bought the 7 way plug pigtail that works with that plug but you can run the brake control and the charging circiuit for the trailer as well, pic's available if you want, Larry

I also have a question about hooking up the brack controler...
Where did you tap in the brack control lead?

Thanks,
