look what I found (yes, yet another toy) in my latest foray at Harbor Freight:
something I've been wanting to make for a while. And here they were, all of $10 ea, all ready to go:
corner supports for the RTT to help the ladder and relieve the stress on the hinges:
Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
fully adjustable, plenty high. Says 66 lbs max but looks stronger than that from pushing down on them. End plates are rotating on a ball. Not yet tried in real life but have high hopes they'll be just fine and will alleviate my worries about heavy weight up there with just the ladder in the middle and hinges to support the weight...
ah!
added: the pistol grip tightener could be removed if too big and in the way for storage. You can still extend the rod by hand.
