I have a mini iPad 2, wi fi only. Every bit of 8’ish years old. I’ve read that I can connect an external gps to it and use it for trail use. I’ve read some articles online but they say for Wi fi and cellular tablets. Can I connect an external gps to a wi fi only mini iPad?

If I can, what external gps units are best? Thanks in advance and my apologies if I’m talking out the side of my neck. I’m tech challenged but have managed to successfully use trail apps on my iPhone. Eyesight is an issue now, wanting to have a larger screen but salvage this old iPad if I can. Thanks again.

I have the same ipad and use a Dual XGPS150 running Gaia GPS on the ipad and it works great.

Just so happens that’s what I ordered. I bluetooth’d it to the iPad with no problems. Proceeded to download my go to apps, MotionX-GPS, it isn’t even available for the mini iPad. Avenza, which I got a message saying it was not compatible with my iPad and Trailview, which I got the same message. So....at this point, my mini iPad 2 is still dead in the water. It’s still cheaper than buying a brand new mini iPad with cellular so I think I’m going to buy a refurbed 4. All I can think to do. I appreciate your response. Thanks.

Hmmm. I have Avenza and Motion-X on mine. I think I had to go through itunes connected to the ipad ot download an older compatible version maybe?
