It's all back together now, super quiet and no leaks. I did use new OEM gaskets and hardware as well. The vibrant v band clamp is a work of art, had a buddy Tig weld it. Nothing lasts forever so I think it will be nice having that clamp there to pull the cat back without much trouble. Probably be putting a 4" flex pipe where the butt joint clamp is now because it's pretty rigid even with the OEM rubber mounts.

Why the v-band AND the collar back to back? Isn't that redundant? Or is the collar a temporary fix until the flex joint install?

I'm just a bit curious as I just bought the magnaflow y pipe to replace my EMS one after flex joint failure. I also ordered the vibrant v-band clamp and flanges...I removed the magnaflow flange and had the vibrant v-band flange tig welded behind the cat. Mine fit right up with EMS v-band collar allowing me to utilize the rest of the EMS system. The flanges are ever so slightly different, but they seem tight in the clamp. I am getting a slight leak at the v-band, but I think this is due to the $20-I had no idea who he was-but he was available last minute tig welder who did't weld the flange on completely straight, so there is a 1/16" gap (pre-clamped measurement) at the bottom of joint.

Anywho. Great write-up, and I appreciate your idea! Aside, from the flex joint failure, I've also had to replace the manifold to downpipe gaskets every few months since installing the EMS system. I've tried copper rtv, OEM gaskets, and every combination imaginable...Hopefully I have better luck with the magnaflow/ems hybrid system... It could be me, but I feel like the annoying cab drone has lessened since the new y-pipe install...but that might have more to do with the exhaust no longer being hard mounted to the car...$2k later:bang:

Glad it helped, yeah the second clamp was temporary. It's still in there actually lol, I need to get to that. The only thing EMS on my system now are some pipe sections. Decent stuff actually, it was one of the first units he made. Post some pics if you get a chance, id like to see how it came out!
