Just looking through my local classified listings looking for an axle to start building an offroad trailer and came across a new Engle Mt-45 fridge freezer for $400. With a deal like that I had to buy it. Now it's time to do a little research on them. I don't think I will regret my purchase

That's a good deal. I've got two that I've had for about 8 years now. I've used them for camping, kept extra meat in them that wouldn't fit in the main freezer in the house, used them to carry stuff home from the store or the veggie stands in the summer, and I've had one in the back of my FJ for about 5 years now. No problems with them at all.

I picked one up last year for CAN$700. I thought it was a good deal for that price. It included the transit bag and lid lock. It was basically never used. Since then I used it while we redid our kitchen (our fridge was moved into garage for two months:frown:). It has worked great and can't wait to use it camping.

I have had an Engel (ARB MT45) for about 6 years. Its amazing. I love it, I will sell my cruiser before I sell the fridge.

We've been looking at the electric refrigerators for quite some time now, but the cost at $800 and up keeps us away. (You can buy a LOT of ice for the coolers at those prices).

What is the current draw for those types of fridges? We're building a smaller military trailer with a roof top tent and are considering running one of the refrigerators. With one 12V deep cycle auto battery, how long will they run on average before you need to recharge your battery? How long will they run on average with two (2) 12V deep cycle auto batteries?

"on average" is a loaded Q. lots of variables with brand, conditions ect. i think 30 amp hrs a day is a good number to build around.
overnighters are no problem for most typical one battery set-ups, 2-3 days is about normal for a good system of either deep cycle or two battery set-up. anything more than that would really require power management to err on the safe side.

Just picked up a gently used one at the local SPCA thrift store for $100. Gave it a clean and blew the dust out of the compressor side and in less than 2 hours on 120v it was -21C!!!

Actually hit -24C or -12F after another hour!
