Yes, I had an OTT tune done from Colorado Toyota Tuning. Definitely made a big difference. I have front and rear bumpers and larger tires, so tune has helped with the shifting after adding all the weight.

Same OTT tunes on ours. Basically same 'feel' as having a pedal commander without having anything connected in the pedal wiring.

Not familiar with this platform; but I can't imagine there's a lot of power on the table, even if you're adding ignition timing, fuel and running 93 octane. Just consequence of lower compression, N/A V8.

That said, there may be more value in the transmission tuning (e.g., modifying shift points, increasing line pressure) to pair with offroad mods.

I have an ETS throttle controller. I would thing the tune would do more than throttle response.

Can you tell me what what you found to be the benefits? Any gas mileage increase? I guess the shift points are changed.

I like my OTT tune as well. It doesn't change anything on the trans computer itself but can alter throttle response and the associated outputs from the ECM that influence how the transmission behaves. I've noticed a small MPG increase, less hesitance to downshift, and much better throttle response off the line.

One side effect I have noticed though about increasing the throttle response, is that in 4LO I have a bit of difficulty keeping low speed and have to use more brake to crawl in tight situations. But the tradeoff is worth it to me for the daily driving betterment.

So if I were to get the tune I should get rid of the throttle controller.

Y’all should consider Yotawerx tuning as well. He did a great job custom tuning my stage 2 supercharged LX and has done a bunch of NA and forced induction 5.7s.

The shifting is much better as @open country mentioned. That's the biggest thing for me. Obviously, when I added all the weight, the shifting was a little more labored on steep roads or when I had to accelerate quickly. The tuning has fixed that. I honestly don't pay attention to mileage as it's already bad in these vehicles. I can't imagine it's much better.

The OTT tune does show more torque (@30ft/lbs) in low rpm than stock, but what is really great about it is the shift points. Way less gear hunting. If you pick the normal and spicy combo for the OTT tune (normal tune without ECT and spicy tune with ECT on), you should be pretty happy.

Anyone done a full custom tune, not just selecting one of the pre-built options? there are some customizations I’d like such as torque converter always lockup in 4/5/6th gear when in ECT PWR (and also S mode, if that’s detectable) for towing, and to lock in 3rd if it’s manually selected as the highest gear.

I’d also give up some high end power at/above 5k RPMs in the cam timing to get more power in the 2-3k RPM range when towing since I find staying locked up below 3000 RPMs can sometimes be a challenge, but maybe that’s already part of the spicier tunes.

The closest OTT shop to me is 90 min away near Milwaukee, so any DIY options are preferable but not required.

Yotawerx did a completely custom ECU and TCU tune for my truck remotely. If you’d like his info shoot me a DM.

Honestly after working with him, I can’t recommend him.
He is also the most expensive. Double OTT. He doesn’t do the tunes himself either.

Admittedly as someone who likes to tinker I’m inclined to get the HPtuners setup and DIY. $600 and I get unlimited tweaking. I just don’t know what I’m doing and/or if HPtuners supports what I want to try

The initial pricing he gave me was similar to OTT, and roughly what buying an HP tuners unit would be with credits. He said he could ship me the tune and the programmer since I’m 4-5 hours away from the closest shop, but I wouldn’t know if he builds the tune himself or has someone else do it. I don’t know that I necessarily care though whether he’s the expert or just has an expert he uses to do custom tunes.

You should just straight up ask him.

He was very up front and honest when I worked with him and was on the phone for over 3 hours with my tech when fine tuning my truck remotely. I have larger injectors, an RC-F throttle body, and a smaller blower pulley so there was no off the shelf tune he could throw on the truck.
