I have done a 5.7 350 in a 1500 chevy truck. How would that compare to this swap?

Would I be walking into a nightmare? I would think a new radiator, do the timing belt and water pump and maybe headers as long as it is all out. What else could be damaged with the engine going down? I would think all accessory are fine, electrical should be plug and play.

IMO that's not a good enough deal to warrant it, some complete 2006s sell for around 15 and you'd be into it for 12, 13, plus incidentals and time. Also, there are a few nuanced differences between the 4.7s in different models, I don't know all of them, but it's not as simple as an LS swap into a GM, I don't think.

That’s a horrible starting price for one that needs an engine rebuild or full swap. I agree with @4Beast

thanks guys. It is a buy it now price assuming he would take less but your other points are well taken.

For whatever it's worth...I know every situation is different. But I gave $2500 for my 2007 Land Cruiser with 192k. It had a blown head gasket when I bought it. It was a one family vehicle and had good service history. Unfortunately, the original owner gave the truck to his daughter and the truck was lucky to have the oil changed. They pretty much just drove the thing and put gas in it when it needed it. You can tell from the maintenance history when she took over the truck. I knew it would need an engine. I went with a remanufactured engine and had a local shop put it in. Everything the shop did; all the "while we were in there" work came to right at $6k. This engine came with a 4 year 100k mile parts and labor warranty too. It took a while to find an engine for the truck because of it being a 2007 and there weren't any engines for it sitting on the shelf anywhere.

Granted my truck isn't as nice as the one listed here, nor is it a Lexus. I'm sure that makes the book values differ a bit. When I bought my truck, rough black book for the truck was $15k and that is deducting for the miles. It also has a sizeable dent in the passenger side fender and was quite filthy inside and out. I was quoted around $600 from my body guy to fix the fender and respray the front bumper. The thing also had a clean CarFax. For whatever that's worth...My stepdad is a wholesaler here so that's how I was able to get the book value on my truck. I forget what all the other values were for the truck. The highest value we were able to find was right at $21k but that was before deducting for the miles and condition.

I was very fortunate to grab my truck for the price I got it. I'm definitely the exception, not the rule, when it comes to buying a truck that needs work. All in all, it's in pretty good shape. No major glaring issues that I've found so far. I've still got to fix the fender and finish cleaning up the interior.

Just guessing here but I would say the truck is probably about $4-5k too high. If you luck up and find a good used engine that passes all the tests you've still gotta swap everything over and put the thing in. 2001LC covered the engine differences in his Unicorn thread. I believe he tried either a GX or a 4Runner engine for that truck. I forget which.

If the guy would come down on the price it might not be a bad project. But if he's hell-bent on getting $9k for the truck he will have it for a while.

I think I have to get over the fact that 150-200k miles is only half of a lc's life. I have been looking for clean 06-07 with 100-150k wanted to keep it under $15k which are more like 16-22k. I can find a rig with 200k for my price tag and still run it to 350k plus

This is the second LX I've seen for sale at $10k with a blown engine. That's what I paid for my 250k mile rig last summer that had all service records and one-owner. I would just keep searching and as you said not be too worried about a well maintained, higher mileage rig. A little bit of maintenance sounds like a lesser headache than an engine swap.
