got the gauge.
by the way, the threads in the block are not 1/8th NPT as i have read in a couple places. couldnt get any number of 1/8th NPT fittings to fit and i wasnt about to force anything in the side of my block ..so.
they are BSPT (British standard pipe taper) as best as i can tell.
so i got a BSPT to NPt conversion fitting and a "T". plumbed in the gauge and the sending unit.
oil light is correct. no oil pressure until light extinguishes. so on to possible causes in order or cheapest/easiest to fix.
checked oil pressure bypass valve and spring on front of oil pump.
replaced with a used spare i had that was a little better shape.
no change.
next i think its either clogged/leaky pickup tube or a leak in between the pickup and the pump input.
so next is to remove pan and timing cover.
i plan to inspect rod bearings and timing chain while i have it apart.
