Hi fellas,

I am new to this forum so please excuse me should I break any forum rules. I have read the guidelines so I will try my best.

I have recently purchased a 1990 Land Cruiser with a 1PZ engine.

My question is what is the recommended oil BRAND that I should purchase. I will stick with the Toyota recommendation of 5W-30 for my climate.

I have looked at the following oilds:
- ZIC X7 AP 5W-30 ENGINE OIL
- Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30 Diesel Formula Long Life Engine Oil

Also the hellishly expensive Mobil 1.

Your expert advice please.

Where I live the temp is not very hot
I use 5W40 full synthetic all yr round

I use 20/50, its what Toyota Australia recommend for the older type diesel. 15/40 would be ok for NZ.
Any good brand is ok. Synthetic not necessary but mineral oil is becoming scarce these days and the price difference is disappearing.

Penrite HPR 15/50.
Supercheap and Repco both sell it in 10L packs and its regularly on special - should be able to get it for $60-$70 when on special.

Semi Synthetic with extra Zinc.

I'm using the 15/50 Penrite as well. Nice price and its still family owned.

What about the Penrite recommendation of mineral oil 20W-60?
Considering NZ climate (winter and summer - 0'C to 30'C)

I have used 20/60 in summer in Australia, but it is outside of Toyotas' recommendations
