I have tried to clear my check engine light twice over this past week and it wont clear. I know what the code is and how to fix it (bad ECU and O2 sensor, BUT I have the newer model ECU installed already:crybaby: ) Anyway, I just wanted to see if the light would go off, even for a minute, but nothing. Even when I pull the main EFI fuse, disconnect the battery, even pulled all the little ecu fuses........still, the light wont even turn off. I know its going to throw the code atleast till I get the new O2 sensors in (ordered them up today from CDan as he was walking out the door;p ) but the point is, I just want to find out why the light wont even turn off........any ideas?

How long did you wait before putting the fuse/battery cable back on? Give it a minute or two before you put it back.

Your post is not clear to me.

If you have a "bad ECM" code (not sure what that is...) then it seems logical to me that no matter what you do, you will trigger the MIL because, by definition, you have a bad ECM and it MUST trip the light immediately upon deciding that it is bad during it's self-test.

Am I making sense?

If you put another ECM in it and the replacement is also tripping the "bad ECM" code then you have a wiring problem or the replacement is bad too. The code is both stored in the ECM and generated by the ECM.

HTH.

Yep, certain time for it to clear.

Your making total sense. The issue is, with the early production 1993 FZJ80, there was an issue with the ECU. For some reason it would give a trip, thus creating a check engine light. The codes pulled say your ECU is crap basically. Here is my issue though, I have the newer (I forget the actually product number at this point) which is normally good. I havent heard of anyone yet getting the codes (82, 83, 84 or something like that:confused: ) with the newer style.

I know the check engine light will keep coming back, which is good. The thing is, no matter what I do, the light wont go off, not even for 2 seconds. Makes me wonder if there is another issue going on.............short??? :crybaby:

odd.

battery or EFI main should do the trick.

if you want to meet me in Sacto (either Hwy 50 or I80 corridors), let me know -- I have a ODB II reader -- I should be able to clear the code with it...unless you have something malfunctioning with your ODB II system...

What codes are you getting right now with the replacement ECM? All of them please.

Doug... he has a 1993 which is pre-OBD-II. Paper clip for him.

The codes I am getting from the check engine light are as follows;
28...which I have memorized...#2 O2
83
84
85

Gosh, this list doesnt even include the two I get from the ABS nor the one I am getting with the cruise control light. My poor beast is screaming for me to give it some love:frown:
