Ok, got the manifold leak cured in the 78 FJ55 w/ OEM double gaskets. Start putting everything back together and found that the PO had ignored the two nipples on the carb heat riser (nice contributor to my vacuum leak no doubt). I'm using the FSM for emissions to try to connect the vapor recovery circuit and the spark advance - most of the other emissions stuff is gone (no air pump/air rail). I'm guessing that the hose from the VSV in the fuel recovery connects to one of the two ports in the carb heat riser but what about the second port? Can anyone please stear me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Ming

Ming, on my 79Fj40 the hose connected to the front "nipple" on the intake goes to the VSV/emission gear mounted on the left/driver inner fender; the rear "nipple" hose -nearest the firewall - goes up/over the valve cover and connects to the PCV valve on the passenger side of the engine block - again, this is the setup on my 79FJ40. Hope this helps. Tom

Ming, "answered" the wrong question -- sorry. The two hoses from the carb plenum/heat shield is another issue ( I too had a "leak" here - forgot to hook up one of the hoses). The larger of the two hoses goes to the driver inner fender mess of emissions gear - I can get you the exact name of the part if you need it just don't have the FSM in front of me - the smaller of the two nipples is used for a short section of hose that goes straight up to the "switch" on the factory carb - a rectangular piece about 2 inches long 1/2 inch wide that is on the driver (left) side fo the carb - this also has one nipple outlet on the top that inturn connects to the single nipple on the factory air cleaner. I'll try to dig up a photo for you if you need it and think the 79FJ40 setup is the same.

Crewzerdog - a photo would be greatly appreciated. Seems that I probably don't have the original air filter either. It certainly is for a late model 2F but it doesn't have a single nipple for a vacuum line - I's soooo confused.

Thanks in advance.

Ming, here's one photo - may not be enough detail for you but the others I have the file size is to large to post. I'll try to take some later this week.
On this photo - note the 'gold' looking 'thing' attached to the carb - in the photo just left of the brake master - that is the piece I was describing that the smaller of the two hoses from the insulator below the carb attaches to this piece -- I think you can see in the photo that there is a vacuum line leaving this 'thing' and connecting to the air breather.

Good luck!

crewzerdog - you are the man! And I'm blinded by the light reflecting off the engine - my God man, that 2F wasn't that clean when it rolled off the assembly line in Japan! You've raised the bar on what's under the hood. I'll see if I can enlarge the photo a little. I may ask you for a few more. e-mail me if you would be so kind at hrempert@sprynet.com with any additional photos you could take - if you don't mind.

Thanks.

Ming
