So maybe conk is spelled with a "C" - dictionary check confirms. That doesn't make it look right. :flipoff2:

And something else will go out later. In case no one has warned you, with a 60/62, the first few years the thing is a monetary black hole. There's just no stopping the cash hemorage. Enjoy!

* after a while it quits though. It's like breaking a horse or something. It's a pain in the ass at first, then it just settles down and the 'relationship' begins.

. . . except the "konk" part. :flipoff2:

Swanker, do you even own a dictionary, you silly ****? :flipoff2: :D The rest of the stuf is good, though . . . . :D

well, you misspelled "stuff" - that's the best I can do. Besides, I don't have to spell very well. I'm very easy on the eyes, and that's good enough. :flipoff2:

Rebuilt it, you'll end up with an OEM as opposed to a reman or cheapie new alt that I guarantee she'll be pulling out sooner than later. Prolly cost less than $100 and it'll be fine.

And yes they are a bitch ib the 62's, try replacing a starter on a Saturn like I did last week.

My local shop rebuilds 62 alternators for 60$, takes me about 1 hour to take out and reinstall, after mine died I replaced all the fusible links and did the battery cleaning/anti corrosion thing, and have not had a problem in 3 years, not including the time my knee hit the window switch causing the volt meter to dive and I started freaking out,,,, in my situation the fusible links were falling apart,,,,,

in my 40 the BIG south atlanta rats chewed on my wires and I had to go thru many many wires...

solder & heat shrink tubing for all of your wiring repairs....this makes for the best connection

FSM will have the wiring diagram for your rig - dive in :D

Just go easy on the system and it should do okay. When i first got my truck, I'd start it up with the headlights on, the fan blowing full blast, the radio at full volume, etc. It's easy to be spoiled by newer cars and do that sort of thing in these old monsters. Watch your voltmeter when you start her up in the morning - keep everything shut down until you start reading a good, positive charge reading.

Last time I blew mine out I was in a hurry, fired up the truck and flipped on the headlights right as it started, then threw it in reverse to go (I get a huge draw from my rev lights for some reason). Blew it big time. Luckily it was still under warranty, so I just took it back and got another one. That said, it's an easy item to blow out for some reason.

hurrah for the new alternator making things good. While you've got yer electrical wits about you check the heavy cables (ground/batt to starter) as well.....My wife and I slept on the side of the NJ turnpike in our 60 once. in the morning I removed the alternator and assembled my bicyle and rode to the nearest auto parts store. I sat on the stoop until tney opened. HAnded them the old alt, and said "can I please get one of these" they sent someone to another shop to get the replacement....The "runner" comes back hands the guy the box, he opens it, looks in, looks at me and sez "uh oh......wrong one" As my spirits sink he sez "just kidding".....rode back to the 60 and put the thing in...tra la la "on the road again"......That dear listeners :flipoff2: is my story and I will now return to doing something remotely useful.....

What exit? :flipoff2:
That quote was so not funny a week ago....but last weekend I saw that movie....I LIKE!

My most memorable bicycle jump was when I was about 8 I put the end of a 12' 2x8 on a stack of 7 or 8 cinderblocks.....It took all my skills.....the ramp was at like a 45 degree angle and I came ripping down a hill and hit....I sailed, the tower of blocks came tumbling down...I landed and bent my seat post at an ungodly angle and bent one pedal...I believe that was the day I learned the improvement to be made by having a pitched landing as opposed to droipping out of the sky on a flat landing. To this day I am a saprano :princess: My son is now 8 and I am terrified/nervously excited for the mad stunts he will soon be getting into....

um wrong quote....I meant the quote about the bike and sweet jumps.....as for the exit I forget but it had a burger king at it :flipoff2:

Okay, so I was reading your post and thinking "WTF?"

As for the jump, I could have told you the cinder blocks were going to come down (from the lateral force . . . .).

The jump in ND was indeed sweet. :D Oh, how many times did I smack my nuts on the crossbar? How many times did my foot bounce off the pedal, only to propel me like Evel Kneivel over the handlebars? Those were the days.

As for your Turnpike story, that must have been quite a few years ago--today, you'd be getting a knock on your window, which I guess is a good thing.
