does this hold true for SBC applications? if so, where might someone find a fan like this? I was told (heck berated) for attempting to put a 17" fan (with shroud) to replace my 19" (shroudless) setup. Although, it was only a 6 blade 17"...
Gosh so many opinions. At the end of the day you've just got to go with what works for you (your altitude, your temperatures, your towing demands). The coldest Chevota I ever had used a 4 core rad, and 7 or 8 bladed fan on a fan clutch, 17" or 18" diameter---can't remember, no shroud (rad only 1" in front of fan).

Thank you! You were (and still are) absolutely correct. I ran an 18.75 inch 7 bladed fan (without a clutch) and put a new water pump and built a shroud ending it just before the fan on my SBC 69 Fj40. My fan is about 4" from my radiator so my shroud is about 3.5 - 3.75 inches deep. I am running a new 160 thermostat. My temp never went above 170 while wheeling, even when i was pushing it. Even though it was cold outside, i strongly believe that the setup fixed my cooling issues because when i shut down the engine, i saw my temp gauge climb to over 200 when the engine and fan weren't running. I will know for sure next July/August. I am located in the mid west and the summers can get pretty hot....

Thanks again, mechanical is the way to go, at least for me
