Orig owner 1978 fj40. Anybody here ever adjust the air gap on a stock elec distributor? Does it ever change? How critical is it? Any input or warnings, etc? Is it an "ain't broke don't touch it" item???

I'm the original owner of my '78 also.
The air gap is not something I have ever adjusted. In fact, it was difficult to find a spec. The spec is, however, 0.2 - 0.4mm (0.008 - 0.016").

I set up the air gap when I replaced the distributor. The original distributor was worn out but the air gap was still within specification. I gonna say it stays pretty close once adjusted.

I just got around to checking it, showed perfect. One more item that is still working fine at 493,400 miles. Still think I got my moneys worth when I bought it!!
