Did you run it all the way through, or was it an out and back trip??

In and out. Decided against the mud hill. We turned around at the cave where the above photo was taken.

That off camber slope heading out can be a scary mother, if slick. Wasn't sure if the conditions were THAT favorable of not.

The '72 FJ55 has a small spring lift, ~2.5" and it was on 31's. It's locked, with sbc. The body is still clean, but he did bink the rear bumper a little coming off a rock. While not a rookie 4X driver, he has not much rock crawling experience and Mark helped spot him through the tough spots.

I also had a alternator bracket support come loose, but still charged -- and I noticed my radiator wasn't fastened down solidly. Plus, my U-bolts need trimming, no point in skid plates if the bolts stick down! Easy stuff, or it should be....

No not this time. But there is and old mining/transient/hippie wide spot in the road that is good for camping. It is just so close to home for me I would rather sleep in my bed and "not in a tent down by the river". The weather did cooperate and gave us a partly sunny day with some mud on the way in past the Kilns and down to the bottom. Once in the canyon it was fine. We did not attempt the back hill as it probably is just as fast to hustle down the same way in on the road.

Over all it was a good trip with a newbie cutting his teeth on the trail in a beautiful FJ55. He did well even through the boulder garden. Amazing how LCers can do even when stock.

Your up next Greg.

Verse 1::meh:
Way out in the land of the setting sun,
Where the wind blows wild and free,
There's a lovely spot, just the only one
That means home sweet home to me.
If you follow the old Kit Carson trail,
Until desert meets the hills,
Oh you certainly will agree with me,
It's the place of a thousand thrills.
Chorus:

Home, means Nevada, Home, means the hills,
Home, means the sage and the pines.
Out by the Truckee's silvery rills,
Out where the sun always shines,
There is the land that I love the best,
Fairer than all I can see.
Right in the heart of the golden west
Home, means Nevada to me.
Verse 2:
Whenever the sun at the close of day,
Colors all the western sky,
Oh my heart returns to the desert grey
And the mountains tow'ring high.
Where the moon beams play in shadowed glen,
With the spotted fawn and doe,
All the live long night until morning light,
Is the loveliest place I know.
