I am going to buy an edgestar fridge freezer.

The only thing that has kept me from ordering is the different size selections.

They have a 43QT, 63QT and 86qt. it seems that there is not much if an external size difference from the 43-86 (see below)
but the interior capacity is substatially larger on the 86.

I have a family of 6 should i just go with the 86qt for my expedition/tent trailer?

I have the 63 liters (about 66 quarts).
Part of my decision was that the outside size was not that much more than the 40+ but the inside proportionally much bigger. Same with the 80+ relatively speaking.
The 66 is big enough that I would not go bigger for the rear of the 80 if I want to carry enough equipment or camping stuff for a long self-sufficient trip.
However, I'm talking being by myself or 2, and no trailer.
I would say that if my family were 6 and I had a trailer with enough room, I would most certainly go for the 80+. But be aware that it may be prettty big to put back in the truck with other junk, especially a 40.
I would suggest to get a cardboard box about that size and move it around. Do keep in mind, though that the inside of fridges is quite a bit smaller than the outside.

FWIW, I did very extensive tests of power consumption, thermal dynamics etc with my fridge and I'm very pleased. The numbers suggest performance and energy efficiency at least equal to that of the bigger names as quantified in the Overland mag test.

THats what i wanted to hear. I am going to go for the 83QT. It will almost never be in the rear of the fj40. most of its life will be spent in the trailer or in the back of my wifes LR3. I think the only time it will be in the back of the 40 is when we go offroading nearby and dont need anything but winch gear a shovel and :cheers:

I would put a battery in the trailer as well to support the fridge. That way you can leave the trailer in camp for the family while you're out exploring. Don't plan on much more than a day or 2 of power though.

679.00 for the 83 qt from compact appliance. delivery in 11th november not a bad price. the 43qt was 500.00

I was planning on a dual battery setup with a small solar panel for charge on the trailer.

had my Edgestar on all the time while taking on big steep dunes in Pismo. No problem seen.
