Anyone here besides me on Echolink? Had a good long talk with my ex-scoutmaster back in Illinois from SoCal using my computer. Then found a local repeater with echolink and the group that operates it. Easy lesson from a very helpful 'Elmer' operator of the repeater and secret code to use it and I was up talking thru the repeater here back to Illinois again from the radio in the cruiser.

Just have to know the node number of who you want to hit. Repeater has a passcode to activate their repeater as well which I guess is not uncommon. Local one will share with a phone call - didn't have to going the group, but I'll check them out as monitoring the repeater sounds like a good local group.

It's SOARA for anyone in Orange County, CA.

Yup, I downloaded the computer program to piddle around with after I received my callsign but didn't yet have a radio. I made my first ham call from my computer to some guys on an active repeater in the Chicago area.

My first Echolink hit was the UofI repeater down in Champaign/Urbana!

Only PITA I've run across so far is on my wireless network at home. The IP address changes every time I reboot the computer. I have to go in and tell the router what the IP address is for Echolink, save it and then go to Echolink. I've learned to test before I try logging on now too.

Brent, you might try setting up your router with a static IP address for your computer.

I've used a local 2M repeater with Echolink a couple times. From mobile and my laptop.

I guess my best story was talking to KI7FZJ on the Rubicon Trail from my laptop in Pismo Beach.

I use it. I have gotten Fort Collins Colorado from dallas. turns out the guy lives about 10 blocks away from where I grew up. pretty cool when you can find someone.
