My 80 is cutting out on hard left turns. I drove it around the parking lot and swung it hard around a few corners, left and right. It ONLY happens when I turn right. Anyone have this happen before? Or have a diagnosis?

 whoa. Sounds like a ground is getting shorted or line pinched. Thats a new for me.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, but I don't wanna tear into my daily driver in the middle of the week if I can get a little heads up on what to look for. I'll open it up this weekend, I just wanna see if anyone knows what is where and how hard is it to get to.

sounds like it might be a wiring harness short

search for the typical wiring harness problem areas and threads to see what others have done. I had something similar and it was upon acceleration and the associated torque on the motor was pulling on a shorted wire in the engine harness. I would check the harness at the firewall by the EGR pipe and if its not burnt already, wrap it now. Then check the harness as it travels along the valve cover and to each associated part (throttle body, IAC, etc). Lastly another area is on the firewall behind(in front of) the glove box. By checking I pulled and twisted and pinched along the harness and wiring, jiggling clips while the motor is running and try and replicate the stumble. good luck

doh.... and dont forget to check the simple things like battery terminals and connections :)

sounds like an exciting day......

My '81 BJ60 did that for a while. Turned out it was the oil sensor in the engine. Whenever I would make a sharpe turn I think the sensor would tell the system there was no oil and it would shut down. Checked the oil, disconnected the sensor ans no problems.
It was a while ago now and I kinda forget the details, but that sensor was the problem.

Another vote for a loose wire. I had that on my 80, dying when I braked hard and frying the EFI fuse. Ended up being a 02 sensor wire touching the driveline. Good luck.

I would just stop turning right...

Just kidding, I would check your battery terminals as suggested above. I had a loose connection at the positive terminal and I would get like a surging feeling, and it even died once. Tightened it up and good to go. :) Hope you find it, I can't offer too much other than what I already threw out.

Sounds like when the wire harness by the EGR touches the EGR, X2 on the wrapping of the harness....you dont want to find out its a problem on top of a mountain (mine shorted the fusable links on a trail ride and it took me about a week to figure out what happened).
