My light blue metallic (861) FJ60 is in need of some touching up. Actually probably an entire paint job, but I don't have the money for it, college student.

So I found this spray can a while back at a parts store. Got really excited and bought it. It turns out to be a GM color according to the "T155" code on the can.

Question is I wonder if it is close enough. I think KingSpence on this board used a GM color to touch up his 60 (brown).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Here is my 60's condition:

And the spray can I found:

So if you've ever experimented with off-the-shelf spray cans on your LC let me know what you have learned.

Thanks :)

I've used the same product but different color, a darker blue, on my daughter's Toyota pickup. I had very little time to do the work and was mainly trying to stop rust and prevent further rust. After I was finished, it looked good and matched the factory paint pretty well. She drove off happy. I saw the truck 6 months later and the paint was so faded and chalked that you could write your name in it with your finger or turn a paper towel blue with a few wipes.

Its fast, its easy, its cheap. You get exactly what you are paying for.

Well crap. Thanks for the reply man.

Is there anything you think that could make it hold up better? Clear coat, etc?

PS. Sorry I just saw this. Forgot to subscribe to this thread. I will now :D

Thanks J.

I'll need to save my pennies for that. $27.95 a spray can if I read the right thing. :)

if you use this paint I'll be interested to know how fast it becomes tack free and then dry to touch and also how well it holds up to uv and other elements.

thanks!

Yeah, I paid about 25 a can K, If you go with this.. spray it in light thin coats, don't try to cover in one or two passes. The metallics will "pop" if you apply light coats and dry quicker and look much better.

Miker, flash time was about 15-20 min/tack free to touch where I could run a tack rag over IIRC... Like I explained to K, use light coat and the end result is far superior (I tried both ways), I had it on the insides of my doors, console and exterior of my hatch, and tailgate on my previous 60. Held up for the last 8 or so months before I sold my Blue.

J
